John
M. Barber has sketched and painted since his youth. As a
teenager, he earned a fellowship from the Virginia Museum
of Fine Art to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond from 1965-1969. During the following decade he
worked as a graphic designer and in 1979 Barber left the
corporate world to pursue a full-time painting career. His
first artistic love was and continues to be maritime subjects,
primarily the Chesapeake Bay, but his work also comprises
an abundance of landscapes and architecture. He has sold
over 500 original works of art throughout the years and
periodically holds sales in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia.
The artist also accepts commissions from individuals who
would like their own visions captured in oil on canvas.
