In this oil painting, we see a skipjack sailing for home after a long day of work. These wooden vessels were designed and built to haul general cargo and dredge oysters on the Chesapeake Bay. There are a few still oystering even today in the Maryland waters of the bay. On the horizon, we see massive storm clouds, which can easily threaten these vessels, some over one hundred years old.
 
Notice the green light on the skipjack. This is its starboard running light. There is a red running light on the port side of the boat. They do not serve the boat itself but are there so that other vessels can see the skipjack and determine her direction of sail during times of restricted visibility such as at night.
 
This piece is unique as I built the frame and gilded the inner border as well as the nameplate in 23 k gold.
