“ Rehoboth Sunrise”

Last fall a long-time collector turned friend sent me photos made by his granddaughters. They were beautiful sunrise scenes of the beach at Rehoboth, Delaware. Phil Mudd and his wife Marion have a lovely home there and their family visits often.

The Mudds are avid collectors of Chesapeake Bay artwork and Phil asked if I would create an oil painting based on the sunrise photos. I explained that fine artists shy away from working directly from photos and painting from someone else’s photos is verboten! We continued the conversation and since Phil is a wonderful friend I relented and agreed to do the painting. He and I have fished together on multiple occasions and he loves fishing in the surf. The flock of seabirds feeding near the beach was not in the photos but I added them as a memento of our mutual love of fishing.
