Chesapeake Dawn

"Chesapeake Dawn"

Chesapeake Bay Skipjacks are the last remaining fishing vessels in North America to work under sail. When I first starting to paint these beautiful old boats in the early 1980s we had two dozen or more working in the Maryland waters of the Chesapeake. Today only a handful survive and just one or two still dredge for oysters under sail. Here we see two skipjacks awaiting the morning breeze to build to the point that they can begin to harvest these succulent bivalves from the bay’s waters.

Oil on stretched linen 8″ x 13″. Overall framed size 13″ x 18 1/4″.                                 $3,750 SOLD.

As with all originals purchased directly from me, this piece comes with a handsome “House of Troy” painting light attached [ $60 value]. JMB
